Rabbi Yacov Shalom Felder, Shlita, was born in Toronto, the fifth child of the late Rabbi Gedalia Felder, zt'l and Rebbetzin Henna Aidel Felder, a'h. In Toronto, Rabbi Yacov Felder attended Eitz Chaim Day School and Ner Israel Yeshiva. He then studied in Yeshivos in the United States, followed by advanced studies at the Kollel Avreichim of Toronto. Rabbi Felder received his Smicha from Rabbi Shlomo Miller, Shlita, of Kollel Avreichim of Toronto.
In 1984, Rabbi Felder married Raisy Hendler of Toronto. Rebbetzin Felder is the daughter of Rav and Mrs. Yecheskel David Hendler, a well-known and illustrious Toronto family. In 1986, Rabbi Yacov Felder was installed as Assistant Rabbi of Shomrai Shabbos Chevrah Mishnayos congregation. Following the passing of his father, Rabbi Gedalia Felder, zt'l, Rabbi Yacov Felder became the Rav of the Shul.
Since assuming his position with Shomrai Shabbos Chevrah Mishnayos, Rabbi Felder has become a respected and revered leader of his kehilla. His personal interest, care and concern for each Shul member and his unique ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds has engendered a warm and welcoming environment in the Shul.
Through his guidance and leadership, Rabbi Felder helped steer the vision and success of the Shul's recent Expansion Project. He has been instrumental in expanding the Shul's successful learning programs and in coordinating the Shul's chesed and tzedakah programs, helping those in need both locally and in Israel. Rabbi Felder also sets an extraordinary example by his extensive and tireless involvement in Tzorchei Tzibbur, including organizations such as COR, Netzach, Eitz Chaim Schools, Bais Yaakov Elementary School and Bikur Cholim, as well as numerous other causes.
Rabbi and Rebbetzin Felder are B'H blessed with 8 children, three of whom are now married and learning in Israel and in Lakewood.
